Citizen Academy
The class roster for the 2012 Citizen's Academy has already been filled. We are not currently accepting applications. We will hold another class in the spring of 2013, applications for that class will be accepted in January of 2013.
Each spring, the Roseburg Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff's Office and Umpqua Community College collaborate to present a Citizen Police Academy. This course is intended to provide the student with a better understanding of law enforcement in their community. The classes are all instructed by law enforcement professionals who have specific training and knowledge in their respective topics. This will be an interactive class and will provide the students the opportunity to ask questions and to participate in training activities.
The 2012 Citizen Academy course will begin on April 5th and will end with a graduation ceremony on June 7th. There are 11 classes held on Thursday nights from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM as well as 3 Saturday sessions. Students are encouraged to attend as many sessions as possible.
These course is free to the public but the class size is limited to 30 students. Background checks will be run on all prospective students. College credit is available through UCC for this course.
