Umpqua BANK CELEBRATES ITS Canyonville and Roseburg roots WITH TWO SIGNIFICANT 60TH ANNIVERSARY INVESTMENTS
Roseburg, Ore. – September 19, 2013 – Umpqua Bank, a subsidiary of Umpqua Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ: UMPQ), announced today that it would be awarding grants for two significant projects in the communities where the company began – Canyonville and Roseburg, Oregon – as part of its 60th anniversary celebration in 2013.
In Canyonville, Umpqua will be helping complete a fully functional computer lab for Canyonville School. This contribution includes 16 new computers along with desks and chairs, along with ten additional computers to be placed in individual classrooms throughout the school. This grant is in response to more than half of the school’s 24 workstations not currently functioning, and ensures that Canyonville School’s educators have the necessary technology at their fingertips to teach their students.
“This lab will enable us to have a full classroom using computers at any given time, rather than needing to rotate students, letting us see each child in a way that values their time and ability to learn,” said Brody Guthrie, Canyonville School Principal. “Research projects, math and reading programs, and keyboarding classes will now be more easily facilitated, and our state testing will now be completed in less than half the time it currently takes. This is some of the best news we’ve heard in a long time.”
Additionally, Umpqua Bank is working with the city of Roseburg to fund the construction of a new play area in Micelli Park, including structures and swings accenting the natural aspects of the environment and gathering areas including picnic areas and benches, while tying into the city’s current work to build a new path between Micelli and Templin Beach parks.
“This area in Roseburg has been underserved and underutilized, and we’re excited to see it transformed for the neighborhood as a whole,” said Lance Colley, Roseburg City Manager. “This gift accelerates plans we already had to add a new play area by a few years, and should enable us to do some incredible work for the city.”
“Umpqua Bank began in Canyonville and Roseburg 60 years ago, and these communities remain an essential part of our company’s story today,” said Ray Davis, Umpqua Bank president and CEO. “As we grow, we continue to recognize the importance of our roots in this area and remain committed to investing actively in the future of this great region.”
