INFORMATION FOR PERSONS INTERESTED IN BEING A CANDIDATE FOR MAYOR OR CITY COUNCILOR FOR THE CITY OF ROSEBURG
IN THE NOVEMBER 8, 2016 GENERAL ELECTION
Forms and instructions for filing as a City candidate in the 2016 General Election may be obtained from the City Recorder’s Office on the third floor of City Hall at 900 SE Douglas in Roseburg, beginning Wednesday, June 1, 2016. The last day to file as a candidate will be Monday, August 29, 2016. For the 2016 General Election, there will be vacancies in the following City offices, with terms as identified below:

|Ward Three||Position 2 - Four Year Term|
|Ward Four||Position 2 - Four Year Term|
The Mayor’s position will be for a two year term expiring December 31, 2018. Council Position 2 in each of the four Wards will be for a four year term expiring December 31, 2020. The positions of Mayor and City Councilor for the City of Roseburg are non-partisan positions supported by Petitions of Nomination. In order to be placed on the ballot as a candidate, you must obtain signatures from a certain number of registered voters who support your nomination. For the office of Mayor, nomination petitions must be signed by not less than 50 registered voters of the City. For the office of City Councilor, nomination petitions must be signed by at least twenty registered voters who reside in the same ward in which you live. If you are unfamiliar with the City Ward boundaries, the City Recorder will assist you in determining which ward you live in.
Qualifications for Candidates
To qualify as a candidate for Mayor or City Councilor of the City of Roseburg, you must be:
1. a legal elector under the laws and constitution of the state of Oregon and a registered voter of the City of Roseburg; and
2. a resident of the City of Roseburg for one year immediately before being elected to the office you are seeking. **
**If running for City Councilor, you must also be a resident of the ward you seek to represent when you file for candidacy and if elected, you must remain a resident of the ward throughout your term of office. You may not seek candidacy in more than one City of Roseburg elective office.
If you are interested in filing for one of the vacant positions, please call the City’s Administration Office at 541/492-6866 to schedule an appointment with City Recorder Sheila Cox; she’ll be happy to explain the process and help you get started on the necessary paperwork. City Hall office hours are from 8:00 a.m. to noon, and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

MAYOR: Larry Rich has completed the process and qualified for the ballot.
COUNCILOR – POSITION 2:
WARD 1: Linda Fisher-Fowler has submitted signatures for verification.
WARD 2: Andrea Zielinski has completed the process and qualified for the ballot.
- Dennis Rogers has submitted signatures for verification.
WARD 3: Brian Prawitz has completed the process and qualified for the ballot.
- Juliete Palenshus has submitted signatures for verification.
WARD 4: - Lew Marks has submitted signatures for verification.
- Ashley Hicks has submitted signatures for verification.
- Todd Boyd has submitted signatures for verification.
Signature sheets from all candidates have been filed with the Douglas County Clerk’s Office. I will continue to update you as I receive notice of anyone who has obtained sufficient signatures to qualify for placement on the ballot.
