The Roseburg Warming Center will not offer overnight shelter on Monday, Jan. 23, or Tuesday, Jan. 24, after plumbing and volunteer issues forced the facility to close two days early.
The Roseburg Warming Center and Roseburg Senior Center need volunteers to help prepare meals for homeless guests and the senior center café, which is currently only open for Friday buffet lunches.
Volunteers are being sought from Thursday, Jan. 19, through Sunday, Jan. 22, to help open the Roseburg Warming Center and offer overnight shelter to unhoused people.
City offices will close Monday, Jan. 16, for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The holiday honors the civil rights leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner who was assassinated April 4, 1968, on a Memphis, Tenn., hotel balcony.
Roseburg may grow and move closer to having a medical college and urban campground, according to a vision for the future laid out by Mayor Larry Rich Monday night in his State of the City address.
